Charles Jackson Meek
Dorothy Emma Pfingstag
Wedding Day- June 15, 1939 (between 12:00 pm and 12:30 pm)
The wedding took place at the bride's parent's house at 609 Second Street, Hudson, Indiana. The groom's mother, father, sister and her beau, were present and arrived around 11:00am. The bride's father, mother; brother Viv and wife Cleota, daughters Joan, Jean and Ruth and son Richard were present. Her sister Stella was in Los Angeles; brothers Carl and Herb (Naval Academy class of 1927) and brother Paul (class of 1932) were in the Navy.

As soon as Charles arrived, both he and Dorothy went to Angola to get the marriage license. Cleota commented that "to wed when the minute hand was going from 6 to 12 would bring bad luck". The minute hand was on the downward sweep when they said their "I do's".

The bride wore a redingote outfit (a dress accompanied by a long unlined coat opened down the front). The dress was a blue print with a solid color coat.

Mother Pfingstag had dinner ready for all in the formal dining room.

The minister of the UBS Church, Rev. Walter Throop ,officiated. The bride asked for a short service as she didn't want to repeat (recite) a long one. "I never realized it would or could be as short as it was!" Literally, Rev. Throop said, "Dearly beloved, we are gathered together....... Do you, Charles, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife? Dorothy, do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband? I now pronounce you man and wife".

The couple honeymooned with her brother Herb in Connecticut. From there, they traveled all over the states to California. At the end of the summer, Charles went back to Milledgeville Georgia State College for Women to finish his year of teaching and Dorothy stayed in Hudson to teach music at the Steuben County schools. They got back together in 1940 after Charles started teaching at Shurtleff College, Alton, Illinois.
